📣 ✨We surveyed 419 engineers, PMs, and project managers across five countries about how dev teams actually work. What stood out is that even those teams are missing half their estimates, rolling a quarter to half their planned work every sprint, and implementing only half their retro actions. That's what makes this data worth looking at. When teams are doing the right things and still hitting the same walls, the problem isn't effort or intent. Something structural is getting in the way. 📊 𝟲𝟯% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀. Nearly half miss the mark on at least half their tasks. The gap between how teams feel about their estimates and how those estimates actually perform is where sprints start to unravel. 📊 𝟴𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲. Dependency delays are the leading cause, with teams waiting on other teams and no visibility into when that blocked work will land. 📊 Most teams run retros regularly and genuinely believe they work. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼. And the top reason for that is the fix sits outside the team's control entirely. 📊 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟯𝟭% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆. Those teams consistently report higher confidence because group discussion surfaces the complexity and dependencies that solo estimators miss. 📊 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆. Spreadsheets, Jira, Confluence, whiteboards.
