Only 200 reside in the forests of Singapore. Meet the Lesser Mouse Deer! I have heard of this elusive, shy creature, but I have never seen one in the flesh. So when this guy crossed our paths, I was elated. Native to Singapore, the Lesser Mouse Deer was once critically endangered, with population numbers as low as 50 in the 1990s. However, due to reforestation and conservation efforts, their numbers have increased by four-fold. Although still labeled as endangered, this recovery is a massive win for our local biodiversity. Seeing one in the flesh is a gift. Seeing two meet on a trail is a moment I wont forget. Sightings like this remind me why the I was out there in the dark humid forest in the first place: Science is to be experienced. #Conservation #Documentary #Ecology #Filmmaking
