It was great to be in Hannover this week for the Insurance Data Science Conference. Earnix’s Luba Orlovsky presented “Enriching Motor Insurance Risk Models with Satellite Reanalysis Data,” exploring how satellite weather reanalysis data can be used in motor insurance risk modelling. One surprising takeaway: while bad weather can disrupt plenty of things, the results showed it did not appear to affect the severity of car accidents in the way many might expect.
