𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗮𝗶𝗱. 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲. 🛑🚰 The word "away" is a marketing myth. When we drop a single-use plastic item into a recycling bin, we assume the loop is closed. But global infrastructure data from the OECD paints a much starker picture: Less than 10% of global plastic ever gets recycled. The remaining 90% enters a highly predictable, linear pipeline: it is either locked in anaerobic landfills where it compresses for centuries, incinerated into atmospheric carbon emissions, or lost to environmental escape—where it fractures into persistent microplastics. Relying on the end-consumer to "recycle more" is an outdated approach to a systemic supply-chain issue. Waste management is just a band-aid. Preventative design is the cure.
