How do you help shape a wine region without making wine yourself? For decades, that was exactly what Lee Hudson of Hudson Napa Valley did. Long before Hudson Ranch became an acclaimed wine producer, Lee Hudson had already established himself as one of Napa Valley's most respected grape growers. From his vineyards in Carneros, he supplied fruit to many of California's leading wineries, helping shape some of the state's most celebrated wines while quietly building the reputation of Hudson Vineyard itself. Together with Cristina Hudson, he later embarked on a second chapter, transforming Hudson Ranch into a highly regarded producer of estate wines without ever losing sight of the philosophy that made the vineyards so special in the first place. During our conversation, one message became abundantly clear: great wine is never the work of one person. It is built through decades of farming, collaboration, mentorship and an unwavering commitment to understanding a piece of land. In our latest feature, we explore: 🍇 The evolution of Hudson Ranch from pioneering grape grower to acclaimed producer. 🤝 Lee Hudson's role in helping shape modern California wine alongside many of the state's legendary winemakers. 🌱 Why Hudson Ranch remains first and foremost an agricultural community. 🍷 Three remarkable wines that beautifully illustrate the estate's philosophy. A sincere thank you to Lee and Cristina Hudson for their openness throughout our conversation and Peter Willmert for his support. We would also like to thank California Terroirs, Dan Buckler and our partner Best of Wines, the distributor of Hudson wines in the Netherlands, for making this visit and interview possible and for their continued support of Dutch Wine Apprentice. 📖 Read the full article and tasting notes on our website, link below. https://lnkd.in/et2bUc4u Do you believe great vineyards are defined by the wines they produce themselves, or by the wines they enable others to create? #californiawine #napavalley #carneros #hudsonranch #winejournalism #dutchwineapprentice #wineindustry #viticulture #wineeducation
