New research led by Dr Chrysostomos Apostolidis from Durham University Business School has found that complex policies, unclear guidance and conflicting priorities can limit the impact of social businesses on their local communities. Social businesses aim to address social or environmental challenges through commercial activities, reinvesting profits to support their mission. However, researchers found that bureaucratic processes, funding pressures and a lack of local support can create significant barriers to success.
