Sometimes the technical solution is the easiest part of the conversation. The donor-advised fund. The appreciated stock. The charitable trust. The estate documents. Those are important decisions. But they usually aren’t the hardest ones. The harder questions often sound like this: How do we include the kids? How much is enough? What kind of difference do we want to make? How do we make these decisions together? Those aren’t questions one profession owns. They’re why financial advisors, attorneys, CPAs, and community foundations often do their best work together. Over time, I’ve become convinced that people rarely struggle because they lack charitable tools. They struggle because the human questions are harder than the technical ones.
