#SaveTheDate ✨Neuroimmunology of metabolic resilience✨ Seminar 📆 Friday, June 19th, 3:00 - 4:00 PM 🏫 Aula Meneghetti - DSF 🧑🏼‍🏫 Prof. Agnes Nadjar, PhD 🏫 Neuroimmunology of metabolic health and disease (NOMAD) laboratory ➡️ Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases ➡️ Director of graduate program- Bordeaux Neurocampus ➡️ University of Bordeaux (Bordeaux, FRANCE) The seminar is organized for PhD Course in Pharmacological Sciences. Coordinator: prof. Michele Morari 🎯 The seminar is open to anyone interested in these topics. What is the seminar about ⤵️ 👉🏻 Neuroimmunology of metabolic resilience Across evolution, female mammals have developed exceptional metabolic flexibility. Hormonal and innate genetic factors enable them to sustain reproduction during periods of food scarcity and efficiently allocate energy while supporting energetically demanding fetuses. This evolutionary advantage gives women a remarkable capacity to maintain energy balance under a wide range of physiological conditions - from handling a calorie-rich meal to withstanding fasting.  Central to this regulation is the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus, which integrates hormonal, neuronal, and nutritional cues. Within this structure, diverse cell populations interact to precisely coordinate whole-body metabolism, including food intake and energy expenditure. In the presentation, prof. Agnès Nadjar will present data uncovering the neuroimmune mechanisms that contribute to the greater metabolic resilience observed in females. In particular, she will focus on the sex-dependent regulation of microglial bioenergetics, highlighting how distinct metabolic and signaling programs in male and female microglia shape their inflammatory responses and influence whole-body adaptation to metabolic stress.
