On 20th November, I witnessed a moment that will define Uganda’s scientific future President Yoweri Museveni officially launched the Dei Biopharma Advanced Agro-Processing and Biotech Park in Namasagali, Kamuli A dream built through years of persistence, criticism, setbacks and unwavering belief in African science Standing inside the starch facility as the President walked through our production lines, I was reminded of something profound Innovation only grows where courage exists And Uganda is blessed to have a leader who allows scientists to build without fear Our new cassava starch plant : A 50 million dollar investment is only the first step For decades, Africa imported 99% of the ingredients used to manufacture tablets, capsules and essential medicines Importation made our drugs expensive and our manufacturersuncompetitive But today, with a facility that processes 500 metric tonnes of cassava every single day, Uganda begins its journey toward pharmaceutical self-reliance From cassava alone, we will extract starch, glucose, maltose, fructose and more than 100 industrial derivatives, supplying not just our own drug plant in Matugga but also regional and global markets The President spoke openly about innovation how Africa has slept for too long, how our knowledge has been undervalued, and how young scientists must be supported instead of frustrated His words were a reminder that local innovation is not just possible : It is essential This starch plant is Phase One of our 10 billion dollar vision A vision that includes • a 1000-bed specialist hospital for sickle cell and cancer • a vaccine facility producing up to 100 million doses of FMD vaccine annually • an organic fertilizer plant to support farmers • and an integrated hub producing APIs, excipients and advanced biotech materials for Africa and the world From Busoga to the global biotech map From cassava fields to FDA-grade medicinal inputs From farmer incomes to high-value exports This is how Uganda rises And we are only getting started Uganda’s biotech future is unstoppable Thanks to my team at DEI BioPharma Ltd #DeiBiopharma #UgandaRising #AfricanInnovation #BiotechAfrica #PresidentMuseveni #CassavaRevolution #IndustrialTransformation #PharmaceuticalSelfReliance #ScienceForAfrica #BusogaTransformation #AdvancedManufacturing #APIs #Excipients #StarchPlant #MagoolaVision
