Fue un honor presentar nuestra investigación sobre "La enfermedad de Chagas y sus manifestaciones neuropsiquiátricas" ante las jornadas de la sociedad Boliviana de Psiquiatria. Históricamente, el manejo de esta enfermedad se ha enfocado casi exclusivamente en la cardiopatía y las complicaciones digestivas. Hoy, urge un cambio de paradigma clínico: debemos abordar el Chagas desde una dimensión sindémica. Es fundamental reconocer la intersección entre los mecanismos biológicos del Trypanosoma cruzi en el sistema nervioso central, el profundo impacto iatrogénico de los tratamientos y el peso de los determinantes sociales en la salud mental de nuestros pacientes. Agradezco profundamente el espacio para visibilizar esta realidad y el debate constructivo sobre la necesidad de integrar la evaluación psiquiátrica de forma estándar en nuestros protocolos. Avanzamos hacia una medicina más integral y humana. 🧠🔬 It was an honor to present our research on "Chagas Disease and its Neuropsychiatric Manifestations" to excellent colleague in the “Congress of the Psychiatry society of Bolivia. Historically, the management of this disease has focused almost exclusively on cardiomyopathy and digestive complications. Today, a clinical paradigm shift is urgent: we must approach Chagas disease through a syndemic lens. It is essential to recognize the intersection between the biological mechanisms of Trypanosoma cruzi in the central nervous system, the profound iatrogenic impact of treatments, and the heavy burden of social determinants on our patients' mental health. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to bring visibility to this reality and the constructive debate on the need to integrate psychiatric evaluation as a standard component of our protocols.
