If you want to know what students want - listen to them. Listen to their voices, observe what you see, and use the data you already have to truly understand their experiences. And then - involve them in the outcomes and show them what you are doing. This interview on The Key Podcast hosted by Inside Higher Ed's Editor-In-Chief, Sara Custer, with Devin D. , student body president at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is well worth a listen to anyone who wants to better understand student success through the eyes of a student. There's a great conversation about the role students should play in campus decision-making. Moreover - there's a clarion call by Devin to really hear AND see from the university the impact of student success work. My favorite line: "Students are tired of press releases; they want to actually see how their life is being made easier."
