Delighted to be invited back to #BAD2026 #Manchester ๐ to a packed symposium talking on the effect of high energy visible light #HEVL on #Pigmentation alongside Prof Hiva Fassihi & Prof Mark Birch-Machin Take homes from my talk โ๏ธ high energy visible light and longer wavelength UVA worsen pigmentation but are not covered by many conventional sunscreens (most of which protect against UVB and shorter wavelength UVA) ๐งด to protect against visible light, HEVL-protecting sunscreens should be tinted (ideally containing iron oxide) or containing adjuncts specifically against HEVL (eg 2MNG/Melasyl)- and should be used for all patients with hyperpigmentation โผ๏ธ Melasma - tranexamic acid arguably first line alongside depigmenting creams. For information about tranexamic acid, read our article: https://lnkd.in/ev3-ttE2 ๐ Acne induced pigmentation (AIP) in skin of colour includes active acne as well as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Retinoids (topical/oral) should always be considered as explored by my students Chawalpat Siripanich Yan Ching Chow . For summary of cosmeceuticals for pigmentation, read my review with Professor Firas Al-Niaimi Tamara Searle : https://lnkd.in/ehw2Y4EB ๐งต Post procedural dyschromia in SOC- consider monofilament (over braided) sutures and direct closures/flaps over skin grafts/secondary intention/curettage - discussed by Marwan Tahoun and myself doi: 10.1097/DSS.0000000000005184 Thank you to L'Orรฉal for arranging symposium British Association of Dermatologists John Beirne Sinead McConville Hiba Alkaissi Emily Dalton Sixtine Falchero La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermatologique
