In Higher Education Estates most recent issue, Jade Barker, Associate Director at Drees & Sommer UK, and Glen Moses, Project Director at ADP Architecture, share how Oxford Brookes University ’s £62m engineering and motorsport facility was delivered. Located on the Headington Hill campus, the scheme sets a new benchmark for motorsport-focused teaching environments. Its delivery required close collaboration between the university and project team, working through a number of complex technical and design challenges. The result is a three-storey, 8,000 sqm facility that brings together advanced labs, robotics, deep learning suites and immersive VR and AR environments. All of this sits within a bespoke ‘breathing skin’ façade, carefully designed to meet the environmental and planning requirements of its conservation area setting.
