The era of "sustainability as compliance" is over. 💬 "In the years ahead, we will continue navigating the evolving regulatory and political landscape while working strategically with the industry towards harmonised standards." Tatiana Kalashnikova, Global ESG & Sustainability Lead at Merz Therapeutics. Tatiana's perspective reflects a powerful shift we've uncovered in our latest PwC Strategy& study: "Beyond Compliance: How Sustainability Can Power Pharma's Future." For years, sustainability in pharma has been treated as a reporting obligation. Today, it's emerging as a competitive advantage – reshaping supply chains, R&D, manufacturing, and investment decisions. Why now? Because the numbers tell a story that leaders can no longer ignore: ➡️ Nearly 9 out of 10 pharma leaders now place sustainability among their top strategic priorities ➡️ Only with shared industry standards (backed by 93% of leaders) will real progress be possible ➡️ AI and data transparency are becoming the new infrastructure of sustainable pharma – with 72% of operations leaders already relying on real-time insights ➡️ The biggest levers ahead: decarbonization and equitable access to medicines – each named a top priority by 71% of leaders So where should pharma leaders focus? Three shifts stand out: 🔸 From projects to strategy – sustainability must move out of CSR silos and into the boardroom, with capital allocation, KPIs, and leadership incentives reflecting its weight. 🔸 From opacity to intelligence – winning companies will turn fragmented supplier data into connected, AI-powered transparency across the full value chain. 🔸 From competition to coalition – no single player can decarbonize pharma alone. Industry-wide collaboration on standards, infrastructure, and circular models is the multiplier. The next decade will separate the pharma companies that report on sustainability from those that are powered by it. 🚀 📥 Discover the full study here: https://lnkd.in/eVxQQiqj Dr. Jens Neumann, Craig Stevenson, Anne Scheidt, Christelle Azar, Cindy Abt, Dr. Thomas Solbach, Fritz Heese, Christian Kaspar, Julian Offenhammer, Oliver R.
