A fantastic and delicious country visit to our colleagues at METRO Italia 🇮🇹 📍 My journey stops: Milano – San Donato Milanese – Cinisello Balsamo - Moncalieri (Torino) – Genova – Pontedera (Pisa) – Firenze - Düsseldorf 👨‍🍳 The first stop was a culinary activity at our METRO Academy in San Donato Milanese, Milan. Together with our chef, Marco Antonelli, I prepared a classic carbonara, an iconic Italian dish. 📈 With the Italian board and leadership team, led by David Martinez Fontano, we had an intense dialogue with lots of interesting questions about the current performance, the financial outlook and the next milestones in line with our #sCore strategy. We also discussed the transformation projects that are boosting the Italian operations in the right direction for further growth. 🏪 At the store visits in Cinisello Balsamo (near Milano), Moncalieri (near Torino), and Genova with ~100 employees and a store size of ~7-8k sqm each, I could see the successful implementation of our strategy as we transform into a multichannel wholesaler. 🚚 We also visited a further 9,000-square-metres FSD (Food Service Delivery) depot in Pontedera, which we recently opened in order to offer delivery customers an even better service and to further optimise METRO Italy's distribution network in Tuscany. 👨‍🍳 Another highlight was visiting our customers: Vittorio al mare in Genova, where the waiter was the owner of the restaurant and ran a family business. He intends to open a new restaurant and continue the partnership with us.  We also visited La Giostra in Florence, a famous restaurant that attracts VIPs like Michael Jordan. 🙌 Mille grazie to David Martinez Fontano and to his entire team at METRO Italia for the perfect organisation, fantastic hospitality, and delicious food and drinks.
