ππͺ The Urgent Need for Climate Resilience Experts in Modern Business By Dr. Oliver Kandela Bulaya Climate change has evolved from being solely an environmental concern to becoming a critical business issue that affects productivity, profitability, supply chains, investment decisions, and long-term sustainability across all sectors of the economy. Drawing from my experience of developing and teaching Deep Ecology and Business Interactions at the University of Lusaka, I commend the institution for recognizing the importance of integrating ecology into business education. Today's business leaders require not only traditional management skills but also the knowledge and competencies to understand climate risks, implement adaptation and mitigation strategies, and build resilient organizations. There is an urgent need for businesses, governments, educational institutions, and development organizations to integrate climate resilience experts into their planning and decision-making processes. Just as organizations employ accountants, lawyers, economists, and ICT professionals, they must also recognize climate resilience expertise as a strategic necessity. This is particularly important in agriculture, where climate specialists can help improve production planning, strengthen food security, manage climate risks, and promote climate-smart practices. However, every sectorβincluding mining, banking, manufacturing, tourism, health, transport, construction, and energy stands to benefit from climate resilience expertise. The future of business depends on leaders who understand that economic growth and environmental sustainability are mutually reinforcing. Investing in climate resilience today is an investment in stronger businesses, resilient economies, and a sustainable future. ππ Dr. Oliver Kandela Bulaya Climate-Smart Agriculture & Climate Resilience Expert
