Pleased to share our new systematic review and meta-analysis published in the American Journal of Surgery: Surgeon Health Matters! https://lnkd.in/eBSv5CYc This study highlights an urgent issue: surgeons care for others, but their own mental health often remains under-recognized. š Key findings: ā Suicidal ideation among U.S. surgeons: 6% ā Completed suicide prevalence: 3% ā Highest suicidal ideation reported in orthopedic surgeons ā Higher prevalence among attending surgeons than residents ā Need for confidential support, screening, and institutional wellness programs Protecting surgeon well-being is essential for both surgeons and patient care. My sincere thanks to the entire research team šŖ
