The Countdown Has Begun: New EU Packaging Rules Take Effect in August 2026 The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR) will begin applying on 12 August 2026, establishing a directly applicable, harmonized framework across all EU Member States. For businesses operating in or selling into the EU market, the PPWR introduces comprehensive requirements covering the entire packaging lifecycle, including: ♻️ Minimum recycled content requirements for plastic packaging 🔄 New recyclability, reuse, and refill obligations 🏷️ Harmonized labeling and identification requirements 📋 Enhanced documentation, conformity assessment, and reporting duties ⚖️ Extended producer responsibility obligations While many substantive obligations will phase in between 2027 and 2040, companies should prepare as packaging design, supply chain management, product compliance processes, and data collection systems may need to be reassessed. In our latest #GTAlert, my colleagues Thomas Dünchheim, Arne Paulus and Leo Mittag and I provide an overview of the key compliance priorities and practical considerations for companies preparing for the new regime. https://lnkd.in/dGiQGjZF #PPWR #Packaging #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ESG #ProductCompliance #EPR #EURegulation #EnvironmentalLaw #SupplyChain #GreenbergTraurig
