Change, transformatio, in Karl Rahner's philosophy takes place in time, during earthly life, of which death is an integral part. We die death every day. This preoccupies man and tears him away from non-specific existence, from the "Man". The "Man" signifies a "bondage" in the "comfort" of generality. Anxiety tears [one] away from the neutral dimension of bondage, and something stirs within man and begins to preoccupy him. This preoccupation, as a self-conscious action, is the transformation, the metamorphosis in time as a possibility of being. The shadow is not ourselves; it is other in relation to us, but it is our companion, which depicts us. The second part of the study approaches the concept of death through the concept of shadow.
