🌏 Beyond Renewables: Building the Right Energy Mix for Net Zero by 2050 The global energy transition is accelerating, and investments in renewable energy are critical. Solar and wind will play a fundamental role in reducing emissions, particularly in countries like Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί with extraordinary renewable resources. However, achieving Net Zero by 2050 is not simply about installing more renewable capacity. Renewables alone do not solve all challenges: ⚑ Intermittency: energy must be available when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing πŸ”‹ Storage: large-scale, long-duration solutions are needed beyond today’s battery deployments 🌐 Grid resilience: electricity networks must evolve to manage distributed and variable generation 🏭 Hard-to-abate sectors: industries such as steel, cement, aviation and heavy transport require additional solutions πŸ’° Affordability: the transition must remain economically sustainable for households and industries A successful pathway requires an integrated and balanced energy mix: β˜€οΈ Solar and wind as major clean energy sources πŸ’§ Hydro and pumped storage for flexibility πŸ”‹ Batteries and next-generation storage technologies βš›οΈ Advanced nuclear technologies where economically and socially viable 🌱 Hydrogen and synthetic fuels for industrial applications πŸ€– AI, digital twins and smart grids to optimise demand, supply and infrastructure ♻️ Carbon capture technologies for sectors where emissions are difficult to eliminate Countries should not compete on ideology, but on outcomes: reducing emissions while ensuring reliability, affordability and energy security. Australia has the opportunity to become a global clean energy leader, but leadership will come from innovation, engineering excellence and a pragmatic approach to the full energy ecosystem. I invite policymakers, researchers, industry leaders and innovators, especially my Australian network, to read my article and contribute to the discussion. πŸ”— Read here: https://lnkd.in/gQv6gYx3 The future is not a single technology. The future is the right combination of technologies. #NetZero #Australia #EnergyTransition #Renewables #CleanEnergy #NuclearEnergy #Hydrogen #ArtificialIntelligence #SmartGrid #Innovation #Sustainability
