Uniper and AM Green sign long-term offtake agreement for up to 500,000 tons of renewable ammonia per year from India 👉 Uniper CEO Michael Lewis: “One of the first large-scale supply corridors between India and Europe” 👉 AM Green Ammonia founder Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty: “A milestone for India’s role in the global energy transition” Düsseldorf/Hyderabad – Uniper Global Commodities SE (“Uniper”) and AM Green Ammonia India Private Limited (“AM Green Ammonia”) today announced the signing of a long-term binding offtake agreement for renewable ammonia certified as a renewable non-biological fuel (RFNBO). The contract, the first of its kind for an Indian company, was signed today in Ahmedabad in the presence of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The signing took place between Michael Lewis, Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and CEO of Uniper, and Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, founder and chairman of the AM Green Group. Under the agreement, Uniper will purchase up to 500,000 tons per year from AM Green's green ammonia projects. The first delivery is expected in 2028 from AM Green Ammonia's first 1-MTPA plant, currently under construction in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The contract represents a significant milestone in India's ambition to become a leading exporter of green hydrogen and green ammonia and aligns with the Indian Prime Minister's vision for the National Hydrogen Mission. For Uniper, the agreement is a significant step forward in developing a diversified portfolio of renewable and low-carbon molecules for European customers. As a raw material and potential hydrogen carrier, renewable ammonia will contribute to decarbonizing industries such as chemicals, fertilizers, refineries, and, in the future, shipping. Uniper and AM Green Ammonia will continue to work with certification bodies to ensure traceability and high-quality reporting integrity for European end users. https://lnkd.in/dNSV2RSJ
