Retinal detachment is a time-sensitive ophthalmic emergency where prompt referral and treatment can significantly improve the likelihood of preserving vision. Patients should be educated to seek urgent ophthalmic assessment if they experience: • Sudden onset flashes (photopsia) • A sudden increase in floaters • A shadow or curtain progressing across the visual field • Acute reduction in visual clarity or field loss Public awareness remains one of the most effective tools for reducing delays in presentation.
