π Who Is DPRI? Meet Bainomugisa JohnBaptist Bainomugisa JohnBaptist is the Founder and Team Lead of Carmel Caring Complex Ltd (3C) and Coordinator for Sub-Saharan Africa. He is based in Uganda πΊπ¬ Through 3C, JohnBaptist works closely with vulnerable and underserved communities across Uganda, supporting locally driven initiatives in climate resilience, health equity, livelihoods, youth empowerment, education, and community well-being. His work sits at the intersection of community development, participatory practice, and philanthropy engagement, with a growing focus on connecting grassroots realities to global philanthropy and research conversations. He came to DPRI through a deepening interest in inclusive philanthropy and the need for stronger Global South representation in philanthropy research. What drew him in was DPRI's commitment to bridging research, lived experience, and community-rooted practice; a space where perspectives too often left out of global conversations could finally be amplified. π¬ "Participatory and community-led approaches are not simply consultation methods or engagement tools β they are fundamentally about trust, shared ownership, dignity, and shifting decision-making closer to the people most affected." He points to something he sees every day on the ground. Communities across Sub-Saharan Africa are not lacking ideas or solutions. What they lack is equitable access to resources, visibility, and decision-making power. And some of the most powerful philanthropy he has witnessed is informal, relational, and deeply rooted in solidarity and collective responsibility. For JohnBaptist, this work is personal. His connection to DPRI comes not only from professional engagement, but from lived experience working alongside communities that carry important knowledge, resilience, and leadership. Yet, they remain excluded from larger philanthropy conversations. π JohnBaptist's Must-Read: Participatory Grantmaking in Philanthropy: How Democratizing Decision-Making Shifts Power to Communities. This publication is a practical and research-grounded exploration of how philanthropy can genuinely shift power to communities, with case studies that resonate with grassroots realities on the ground. DPRI is people. Real people, doing meaningful work, from all corners of the world. π #WhoIsDPRI #DemocratizingPhilanthropy #DPRI #Uganda #SubSaharanAfrica #CommunityLed #ParticipatoryPhilanthropy #climateresilience #GlobalSouth #healthequity #youthempowerment
