Having written a short biography on Max Weber in my latest book on capitalism, I am most impressed with his objective perspective on the benefits of religion and his insistence that political economy incorporate historical, social, and moral insights. Unfortunately, his association with the German Historical School meant he got Adam Smith completely wrong. As we approach the 250-year anniversary of The Wealth of Nations, scholars are discovering how similar Smith’s political economy was to Weber’s. DS
