🧠💡Sometimes your brain learns fast. Sometimes it slows down. But why? Researchers Lisa Genzel and Fleur Zeldenrust received a NOW ENW-M Open Competition grant to find out. In their project, “The Cortex as a Fast but Adaptive Learning System,” they study how the cortex builds new knowledge. Their idea: the cortex switches between fast and slow learning depending on how much you already know. With new information, your brain learns quickly. If you already have prior knowledge, your brain learns more carefully and more slowly. Using animal experiments and computer models, they explore how the brain forms our world.
