At D&G, our purpose is simple: to protect what matters at the heart of every home. For over a century, across 12 countries, we’ve been the trusted appliance care experts for more than 6.7 million customers. From keeping fridges running to ensuring warmth through winter, we've built our reputation on caring for the appliances people rely on every day. Now we're taking that care further, through our collaboration with The Washing Machine Project - to communities where laundry isn't just a chore, it's a daily challenge. Around half of the world’s population still washes clothes by hand. Women and girls spend up to 20 hours per week on this task, losing time for education, work, and rest. Handwashing also uses up to 50 litres of water per wash- often half a family's daily allowance in refugee camps. We’re funding a pilot community hub in India that brings manual Divya washing machines closer to the communities they serve and supporting the production of 70 manual washing machines – simple, sustainable, innovations that will impact up to 7,000 lives. The Divya machine: ⚡ Requires no electricity 🫧 Uses 50% less water than handwashing ⏳ Cuts laundry time from 2.5 hours to 30 minutes ♻️ Fully recyclable But this is more than just machines. Through The Washing Machine Project, we’re helping empower women by training them as repair technicians and social entrepreneurs. With our expertise in appliance care and repair, we’re supporting the creation of a female-led service network that strengthens local skills, livelihoods, and leadership across these communities. 💬 Our HR Director, Dr Pavica Krapljan-Barr, who has spearheaded this collaboration, says: “This is about empowering communities and giving time back to women and girls. By supporting The Washing Machine Project, we’re helping reduce the burden of unpaid domestic labour and helping create opportunities for local people.” 💬 Dr Navjot Sawhney, CEO of The Washing Machine Project, adds: ''It’s amazing to be working with D&G on this collaboration. With their support, we’re piloting a community hub in India, impacting up to 7,000 people with Divya Washing Machines and training women in the community with the skills to look after them. This support will literally change lives, and we couldn't be prouder to be doing this with D&G.'' This collaboration reflects our commitment to caring for people and communities – a core pillar of our sustainability strategy.
