Headless Shopify just became easier to build, but that doesn't mean it's the right choice for every brand. Shopify and Vercel are bringing the commerce and experience layers closer together by making Hydrogen more portable across frameworks and using AI to accelerate parts of the development process. It's a meaningful step forward for teams building custom commerce experiences. But faster development doesn't remove the strategic, architectural, and operational decisions that come with headless. For most brands, Shopify's native storefront architecture is still the right fit. Headless earns its complexity when a business has the technical maturity, creative ambition, or omnichannel requirements to justify the investment. The takeaway? This partnership makes the headless conversation more compelling but it doesn't change the fundamentals: Architecture decisions should be driven by business goals, not the latest announcement.
