Critical raw materials need direction – DMT maps opportunities between Brazil and Germany Following the exchange at HANNOVER MESSE 2026 on Brazilian-German cooperation in critical minerals, including contributions from Tim Schloesser of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Rüdiger Durchholz of DMT GROUP, we are now sharing the underlying study that DMT prepared on behalf of GIZ. The study was developed in the context of German development cooperation for the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). With this study, DMT identified concrete raw material projects for potential corporation between Brazil and Germany across critical raw material supply chains. The focus was on advanced-stage projects – FEL 2 or higher – in rare earths, lithium, graphite and silicon with strategic relevance for German industry. Guided by Tim Schlösser of GIZ and led by Rüdiger Durchholz, the DMT GROUP team examined project maturity, ESG-related aspects, permitting and opportunities along the wider value chain — from mining and processing to recycling and industrial integration. One key finding stands out: Brazil offers more than geological potential. The country combines significant mineral resources with growing ambitions for local value creation, a largely renewable energy mix and a regulatory framework that can support long-term industrial cooperation and prosper socio-economic developments. The study highlights that resilient supply chains require early engagement, technical understanding and partnerships that connect industrial demand with viable and responsible projects. By combining technical, regulatory and strategic perspectives, studies like this help create a more informed basis for decision-making, investment dialogue and long-term industrial cooperation. This interdisciplinary approach is central to how DMT supports partners in complex industrial and resource-related environments. The study is now available.
