Did you know? D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) completed the construction of the Folk Arts Theater in only 77 days. From pile driving to completion, the structure was built with almost 90% precast components. Designed by National Artist for Architecture Leandro V. Locsin, the 10,000-seat theater located within the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex in Pasay City, officially opened on July 7, 1974. It was built for the 1974 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant on July 21, 1974, and subsequently hosted other international performances. The Folk Arts Theater was later renamed Tanghalang Francisco Balagtas in honor of Francisco Balagtas, the acclaimed Filipino poet and author of Florante at Laura.
