Justin Trudeau's latest statement on the genocide in Gaza reeks of anti-Palestinian racism. Here's why: 1. As a matter of international law, Israel cannot invoke the UN Charter's article on the right to self-defense when acting against threats from occupied territory. Gaza is occupied territory. 2. While referring to Israel's supposed right of self-defence, Trudeau makes no mention of the right of Palestinians, the occupied people, to defend themselves. He evidently believes that Palestinians must submit passively to their own destruction. 3. By repeating Israel's nefarious refrain that Hamas uses the people of Gaza as "human shields", Trudeau seeks to transfer responsibility for the mass slaughter of Palestinian civilians from Israel, the agent of their destruction, to Hamas. 4. Canada and other Western governments have no business telling Palestinians who will govern them. That is a decision for Palestinians, and Palestinians alone. 5. Trudeau makes no reference to the provisional measures ordered by the ICJ or to the ICJ's determination, by a margin of 15-2, that it is plausible that Israel is committing genocide. Trudeau also ignores the international human rights consensus that Israel was committing the crime of apartheid long before the attacks of October 7. 6. Again and again, Trudeau and other Western leaders profess their 'deep concern' for Palestinians, yet they refuse to impose any sanctions on Israel, as they have done to many other states, including Russia and Iran. Their expressions of 'deep concern' are therefore disingenuous and an insult to our intelligence. The bottom line is that Trudeau is an anti-Palestinian racist and, like a dutiful vassal of Washington, he remains fully committed to Israel's genocidal project. #cdnpoli @JustinTrudeau #Gaza #genocide
