In the aftermath of last month's govt shutdown and the SNAP debacle, I spoke with Courtney Vinopal at Morning Brew / HR Brew about the canary in the coalmine: hunger is showing up at work. One thing you'll never see in an employee engagement survey is *why* people are struggling to show up in the best way possible. Workers are carrying the stress of rising food costs & an unstable support system -- and that impacts everything. This isn't a "nice to solve someday" issue -- it's right in front of us. What I'm encouraged by is how companies are responding. They're no longer treating employee meals as perks -- they're treating them as part of how you take care of people, the same way you'd think about healthcare or mental well-being benefits. At Sharebite, we're seeing this shift happening in real time. Companies want to support their teams because it's the right thing to do, and because there isn't another benefit that even comes close to hitting the ROI of a daily meal stipend. Grateful to Courtney & Morning Brew for elevating this convo. (Link to article in comments)
