Can AI cut days, not just hours, from an ocean crossing? Heerema Marine Contractors says it can. Using AI-powered, vessel-specific voyage optimisation, the company reduced Sleipnir's North Atlantic transit by 2.5 days, cut the sailing distance by 240 nautical miles, and lowered CO₂ emissions by up to 18%, all without modifying the vessel. As Alejandro Velez Isaza, Decarbonization Engineer at Heerema, said: "Improving fleet efficiency is fundamental to our decarbonization strategy... Those insights create further opportunities to optimize fuel consumption during one of the most energy-intensive phases of our operations."
