Meet DD-TD Black Playwrights Mentoring Program playwright Akosua Amo-Adem and dramaturge Tawiah Ben M'Carthy. Akosua Amo-Adem is an actor, writer, and director/acting coach based in Toronto. Through out her career Akosua has appeared in a variety of plays around the city. She was an assistant director on Harlem Duet at Tarragon Theatre and co-directed Shades, a dance theatre piece by Esie Mensah. She is a published author with an article called “See Me” in Intermission online magazine and appeared on NOW Magazine’s 2019 list of top ten theatre artists in Toronto. She is also a series regular as Stacie on the TV show Kim’s Convenience on CBC gem and Netflix. Tawiah M’Carthy is a Ghanaian theatre artist and professional based in Toronto. He is a founding member of Blue Bird Theatre Collective and Saga Collectif. Tawiah is currently the artist outreach and development coordinator at Canadian Stage and the director of the Emerging Creators Unit Program at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. Tawiah is a Dora Mavor Moore Award nominated Playwright and Performer. Akosua partnered with Tawiah M’Carthy and Soulpepper to dramaturge her play Table For Two which is a comedic play about a thirty-five year old Ghanaian-Canadian woman on a journey to find an epic love.
