GM & Head of Product, Gamma for Business
Today is my one-year Gammaversary. I can’t believe it! When I joined last June, we’d just hit 50M users & $50M ARR with a team of 30. Now we’re at over 100M users, well over $100M ARR, and a team of nearly 100. (Hot off the press: I just heard from Jon that we’ll officially cross 100 employees next Monday!!) The numbers are staggering, but what's more staggering is that behind every number is a choice. Every one of those 100M users represents a person somewhere in the world deciding: today is the day I try a new tool for sharing my big ideas. Every dollar represents someone making the choice that telling their story with Gamma is worth their hard-earned cash. And every employee is a bonkers-talented individual committing the next chapter of their careers to this quest we’re on together; they’re choosing to make that quest their own. So what‘s my Gamma story? What has this choice meant to me? I can’t even ask myself that without tearing up. It’s been everything I hoped for and more. The chance to build a true dream team, bringing together people I’ve wanted to work with for literal years. (Kelsey, Maisy, Anjali—we finally did it!) The chance to meet a whole new set of ride-or-die coworkers who’ve, in the wise words of TikTok, permanently altered my brain chemistry. The chance to collab across company lines with star co-conspirators like Madison and Ellen. And the chance to learn deeply from industry leaders who’ve won my heart…here’s looking at you, Bruno, Jen, Ilona, and Frank. But beyond all the wins, surprises, struggles, and breakthroughs along the way, there’s the simple fact that at this stage in my career, having something turn out even better than I’d hoped is a shock to the system. When I was eight years old, my heart famously broke when a DIY Halloween costume kit I’d ordered from a catalogue (and fantasized about) arrived and contained a few puny pieces of netting and lace. “Oh Mommy,” I said, “my problem is I just have such a good imagination. I imagine it will be such a wonderful thing, and then it never is.” I imagined a lot for my Gamma chapter, but I never imagined it could be just like this. I think that’s because EVERYONE here has such a good imagination. We are all working our hardest to make this the wonderful thing we know it can be. We know it won’t happen by accident. When it happens, it will happen because of choices we made together. So thank you with all my heart to our founders Grant, James, and Jon for this opportunity to reconnect with my inner child (who is apparently now a good runner because we’re moving FAST) through this journey. And thank you especially to Jon, who’s known me since I was almost literally a child (we met in college!) and knew, just knew that we could make this work. Here’s to all the memories we’ll make together in year 2 and beyond.
