In Lorient, near the protected Groix Island, stakeholders needed a clearer understanding of sediment behaviour to support better decisions. DHI developed a 3D hydro-sediment model to simulate natural turbidity and dumping operations over one year. The model, validated with field data, showed that: โก๏ธTurbidity plumes disperse quickly offshore โก๏ธImpact on sensitive habitats remains minimal โก๏ธThe dumping site is semi-dispersive, with slow evolution of deposit material and ongoing wave-driven resuspension An optimised scenario highlighted opportunities to reduce costs, minimise ecological risks and support sustainable, collaborative coastal management.
