Today, the 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗶𝗷𝗮𝗻 will host the global commemoration of 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). In Azerbaijan, climate patterns are shifting in ways that are increasingly variable and extreme, and the country is projected to warm faster than the global average. UNEP DHI Partnership - Centre on Water and Environment is contributing to a project that aims to build capacity to deliver 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 and a people-centred, 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 multi-hazard 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺. This project will help strengthen 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 for more than 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 across the country. Our work helps turn climate and hydrological data into practical tools for decision-making and early action by: ✅Identifying, mapping and quantifying risks linked to climate-related hydrological hazards ✅Training stakeholders in hydrological data management and quality assurance ✅Developing, applying and interpreting hydrological and hydraulic models that will underpin the early warning system ✅Co-developing climate information products tailored to the water sector Funded by the Green Climate Fund, the project is implemented by UNEP together with national and international partners.
