In 2015, two security researchers sat in an office in St. Louis and remotely took control of a Jeep Cherokee doing 70 mph on a highway. They killed the transmission. They cut the brakes. They did it from a laptop, over a cellular connection, without physical access to the vehicle. That was 11 years ago. Vehicles today run 10 to 100 times more software.
