Ukrainian astronomy has strong partners in DESY and the Deutsches Zentrum für Astrophysik gGmbH. That's the message sent by Christian Stegmann and Stefan Ohm as they traveled to Lviv last week to sign an extended memorandum of understanding with several institutes based in the western Ukrainian city: Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Lviv Polytechnic National University, as well as the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ukraine Astronomical Association. The agreement helps shape the reconstruction and further development of astronomy resources in the country. This includes potential collaborations with Ukrainian scientists on the topic of gamma ray astronomy using the future CTAO observatory being built in Gran Canaria and Chile. Not only could the partnership be strengthened by agreement, but it could also produce some interesting results. A teacher training led by DESY and DZA helped teachers from Lviv, Kyiv, Odessa, and Charkiv build and learn to use their own homemade radio telescopes. The training is based on an idea from our colleagues at SKA Observatory.
