How well do we really understand the universe? A new result from the CMS (CMS Collaboration) experiment at CERN, with key contributions from DESY researchers, brings us one step closer to answering this question – building on results first presented in 2024 and now published in Nature Magazine. Researchers have now achieved the most precise measurement yet of the W boson, a fundamental particle that plays a key role in understanding how nature works at the smallest scales. Why does this matter? ·      Precision is key in particle physics. The more accurate the measurement, the better we can test our understanding of the universe. ·      By improving on previous results, scientists can confirm existing theories – or uncover hints of new physics. Scientific progress builds step by step – each result refining the last.
