We’re proud to share our latest work: “Validating an open-access and low-cost 3D-printed dermatoscope for enhanced accessibility into dermoscopy.” 🔎What’s the innovation? Traditional dermatoscopes can cost hundreds of pounds, limiting access for clinicians, trainees, and healthcare workers in resource-constrained settings. Our team developed a self-assembly, 3D-printed dermatoscope (hand-held and smartphone versions) for around £5–£20, with open-access design files freely available online. What we found: 💡The device produces dermoscopic images comparable to standard commercial tools 💡Validated in both UK and Egyptian clinical settings 💡Demonstrates the potential to democratise access to dermoscopy globally 🚨Why it matters: By combining open-source design and affordable technology, we can make early skin cancer detection tools accessible to everyone — not just well-resourced clinics.
