Minister of State Timmy Dooley, spoke at a high-level discussion hosted by Hydrogen Europe Research on Tuesday, on how hydrogen and fuel cell technologies can contribute to Europe's competitiveness, energy security and the clean energy transition ahead of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. A key work strand of the hydrogen task force concerns geological hydrogen storage. This will be crucial if hydrogen is to play a role in power generation to provide adequate storage. Geological formations offer the most promising and cost-effective way of storing large quantities of hydrogen. We have launched a call for evidence for prospective hydrogen storage projects last week, which will allow us to plan for the legislation and regulatory changes required to facilitate these developments. The call is open until the middle of July and the results will be published following the next hydrogen taskforce meeting in September. For more information: https://bit.ly/4xCTXW3
