(Henry Moret, December 12, 1856 - May 5, 1913) was a French Impressionist painter. He was one of the artists who had contact with Paul Gauguin in Brittany, France, and was known for depicting the colorful landscapes of the Pont-Aven artist colony and the coast of Brittany. Born in Cherbourg, Moret began his military service in 1875. His commanding officer, Jules La Villette, first noticed his artistic talent and introduced him to Ernest Corolles, a painting teacher and naval painter. Corolles taught him the art of landscape painting and later studied with Rodolphe Lyman, Jean-Léon Jerome, Jean-Paul Laurens and others. Moret exhibited his seven paintings of Brittany at the Salon des Indépendants. after 1900, he became more obsessed with Impressionism, using a small amount of spotting in his work.
