Did you know that by 1935, the DEME founders had already built a legacy spanning multiple continents? To celebrate his 80th birthday on April 6, 1935, one of our founders, Hendrik Willem Ackermans was gifted a unique piece of Delft Blue pottery. This commemorative plate displayed the iconic vessels and worldwide locations that defined his life’s work. Between names of iconic dredging vessels like La Plata and Schelde, the artwork featured names like Le Havre, Pointe-Noire, and Phnom Penh. Whether showing vessel names or the pioneering projects the founders tackled, it was a striking symbol of a company that was already shaping maritime infrastructure on a truly global scale. This is just one of four new 150 years DEME stories we've just launched.
