💧 How do we in the Netherlands and Lower Saxony tackle the same water challenges, often from different systems and perspectives? During the Lower Saxony–Netherlands Water Conference, public authorities, research institutions, and businesses pooled their expertise to jointly address water challenges such as flooding, drought, and water availability. 💬 With contributions from Jaap Slootmaker, the Dutch Directorate-General for Water and Soil, and Lower Saxony's Environment Minister Christian Meyer, as well as a panel of regional administrators, the political and administrative importance of cross-border water management was clearly emphasised. 🔍 In workshops and breakout sessions, Deltares experts Angela Klein, Jan Verkade, Judith ter Maat, Tatjana E., Dimmie Hendriks, and Daan van Waterschoot led in-depth discussions on themes such as: 🔹 High- and low-water early warning and forecasting 🔹 Cross-border stress testing 🔹 Water availability and drought 🔹 Retention and sponge landscapes 🔹 Cooperation in cross-border river basins As lead partner of the JCAR ATRACE programme, Deltares actively contributes to bridging the gap between knowledge and practice. Together, we explore where policy and management differ, where they overlap – and, above all, which knowledge questions we need to resolve together. 🤝 Together, we're taking steps towards future-proof water management. The conference was not only a first joined conference between Lower Saxony and the Netherlands, but also a next step to enhance the local collaboration (GPRW platform) from beyond knowledge exchange to joint actions, e.g. in the shared river basin of the Vecht. #EnablingDeltaLife #waterbeheer #JCARATRACE
