Delta welcomes the approval of the Chain Valley Colliery Consolidation Project by the NSW Independent Planning Commission – supporting hundreds of mining jobs and securing a reliable, local coal supply for Vales Point Power Station. Chain Valley Colliery supplies coal exclusively to Vales Point Power Station, providing around 50% of the power station’s coal needs. It plays an important role in supporting reliable electricity generation and system stability in NSW during the energy transition. It is also a major employer and significant contributor to the Central Coast, Hunter and NSW economies, supporting over 330 direct workers and procuring goods and services from local suppliers. The approval consolidates the existing approvals for the Chain Valley and Mannering collieries under a single, contemporary consent and extends the mine’s operations for two years to the end of 2029. We acknowledge the conditions of consent and are committed to implementing them with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and relevant regulatory authorities. Thank you to the Commissioners for their consideration, and to all stakeholders and community members who participated in the assessment process.
