Lock guide rails are exposed to sediment abrasion, corrosion, constant water contact and mechanical loads, often at the same time. That is exactly why the surface matters. One current project is a 2.70 m guide rail for a lock gate on the Mosel river, coated with 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁® 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴. The process itself is highly technical. The benefit is straightforward: a wear-resistant surface that maintains dimensional stability over time, ensuring reliable gate operation and helping extend maintenance intervals. 𝗧𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀, 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Across the full 2.70 m length, Ultimet® is applied layer by layer with controlled heat input. Coating geometry and layer quality must remain consistent throughout the component. In lock gate applications, even small deviations can affect long-term performance.
