A huge welcome to the 460 university students starting their Summer Vacation Scheme programme with us today. Each student, currently in their penultimate year of university, will gain a valuable grounding in professional skills such as teamwork, confidence, and communication, and take part in real-life work with Deloitte clients and on team projects. Richard Harries, who was promoted to be a tax partner in our Leeds office earlier this month, took part in the Summer Vacation scheme in 2009. Here are his top five tips for students taking part: 🙋🏼Come in ready to learn. Put your hand up and be inquisitive, as people are very friendly at Deloitte. ✍️Keep a record of your experiences. Write down what you’ve been up to and also what you did and didn’t enjoy. This helps you reflect at the end of the programme on what areas you’d like to work in moving forwards. 🤔Don’t get too hung up on being too productive. You’re not coming in to solely work – take the opportunity to shadow existing employees and join them for lunch to see what the firm is like. You won’t get that experience by sitting at your desk all the time. 🤝Stay in touch with your fellow interns. You can build real connections by doing this and they will become your network. Invest in those relationships, add them on LinkedIn and share posts about your experiences. 😊Enjoy your experience. You will gain some great insight, experiences and skills so enjoy the next few weeks here!
