It’s a new year and time for a new series of my Turning the Tables media podcast where I get to interview some of Ireland’s leading media movers and shakers. My guest this week is the indefatigable Eddie Coffey, editor of the Irish Daily Mail. Eddie recalls the family purchasing not just one, but three or four newspapers, after mass on a Sunday morning when growing up, such was their hunger for news. Eddie tells me about his career, first stationed at the Longford Leader, before moving on to roles in the Kildare Nationalist, and then the Mail on Sunday, before arriving at his current posting in the Irish Daily Mail. Eddie takes me through a typical day at the office, from considering the news list at the start of the day, to putting the paper to bed late into the evening. Eddie muses that the demise of print newspapers has been heralded many times but, a glass-half-full-kinda-guy, he continues to be optimistic for the future. When considering a typical Daily Mail reader, Eddie has created a fictional Mrs Jones - “a middle-aged parent of nearly grown-up children” - whose head he tries to infiltrate for guidance! A fun fact. Did you know that the puzzle section is one of the most popular items in the paper? You can listen to the first episode in the new series here https://lnkd.in/eMxrJ45v, with a new episode dropping every Tuesday morning for the next six weeks. Enjoy! #PR #podcasts #media #newspapers #digitalmedia #onlinenews
