On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This delay reminds us that the promise of freedom and the reality of freedom do not always align. Today, as we observe Juneteenth, DEKRA North America celebrates liberation while acknowledging the ongoing work needed to achieve true equity and justice.
