We're increasing Farming Innovation Programme funding from £70 million to £123 million for competitions in 26/27. Picking mushrooms is skilled, labour-intensive work. Through FIP grant funding, Littleport Mushroom Farm partnered with a specialist robotics team to develop an automated harvesting system to pick the fragile Agaricus mushroom in the confined, humid conditions of a commercial growing facility. This kind of technology addresses real on-farm challenges, reducing dependence on seasonal labour and giving growers greater control over production costs. We want to fund more projects like this.
